NATURE PARK VISITOR CENTER
On the ground floor the nature park visitor center in Kasern shows an exhibit about handicrafts and agriculture in the Ahrntal valley. Also on the ground floor you can find the office of the tourist association, which can provide you with useful information for your stay in Prettau. Downstairs a special interactive exhibition gives you a glimpse at the fascinating and rich history and nature of our place. You can reach the visitor center in 15 minutes on foot or alternatively on board the free bus that stops next to our house.

MINING MUSEUM
The first historically confirmed mention of mining in Prettau dates back to 1426. For many centuries the mountains were mined for copper under the leadership of the so-called Gewerke, as the owners of the mining business were called. Only in 1971, the mine was permanently closed. However, in 1996 the mining museum opened its doors to visitors, who can now expand their knowledge of local history and culture on an underground mine tour.
In 2003 the CLIMATIC CENTRE was opened, also in the disused copper mine. The idea is unique in Italy: a series of stays in the mine over several days can significantly alleviate illnesses of the respiratory tract. (See our page about “RESPIRATION+CLIMATE GALLERY” for more.) You can reach the Climatic Centre and the mining museum in two minutes on foot.

THE ART OF BOBBIN LACE MAKING
Due to an economic crisis towards the end of the 19th century, locals discovered bobbin lace making as a new source of income to alleviate their hardship. To this day, many women of our village practice this beautiful and filigree craftwork. There are opportunities to observe some of the artisans when they carry on their craft.
